Computer Skills
ArcGIS (ESRI)
-
I currently have six years of work experience and training on this
software. AutoCAD- I have ten years of instruction and an
additional six years of work experience with various versions of this
software. Access- I currently have
six years of work experience and training on this software. Excel- I currently have
six years of work experience and training on this software. I
have been with employed for NIPSCO either directly or as a contractor since
June of 2002. During this time I have been a record clerk and a quality
assurance specialist. In my role as a record clerk, it was my responsibility
to accurately place the features into the mapping system and balance the
material for property records. As a quality assurance specialist, I am
responsible for reviewing the work that has been completed by the records
department. By maintaining accurate records and correctly balancing the
material we are helping ensure energy delivery and reliability along with
financial responsibility. I have had opportunities to display leadership by
volunteering for the Record Department EE Team. While the previous EE teams
did accomplish some of the objectives that were set before them, there were
discussions with other members of our department and some of them did not
feel that were being represented accurately. Based on these discussions, I
volunteered to be a member of the EE team and use my leadership skills and
try to represent the department in a more accurate manner. I have had to use organizational skills to determine
which project or deadline is the most essential for completion while making
sure that none of the other priorities are delayed past their deadlines as
well. During the qa process, I use analytical skills to
determine what material was used based on the material inventory system we
have, where the material were installed based on the as-built prints provided
in the work order packet, when the material was installed and if we need to
complete a field adjustment to return excess material that was issue to the
work order. As part of the records department qa team, one of
our responsibilities is to provide assistance to the record clerks. While
providing assistance with work order interpretation, installing facilities in
the WMGIS or balancing a work order, we have to use our knowledge of the
utility industry and NIPSCO’s electric and gas standards to ensure that the
work is completed correctly. We have to make decisions based on the paperwork
provided in the work order packet, the materials that have been issued or
vouchered to the work order and making an educated decision based on those
factors. When we are unable to make a decision based on this information, we
will seek guidance from our supervisor, the engineer of the project, or the
crew supervisor that completed the work. As part of the WM/GIS Help desk, I have to be able
to communicate with all of the members of the record department either in
person (Angola LOA), via email, or by telephone. We are also required to use
the Maximo/TSRM to log all of the errors or issues within the system. By
having good communication skills, we have been able to provide IBM with an
understanding of what, why and how we need the system to run from an electric
and gas utility standpoint. As a member of the records department a substantial
portion of my work is completed on the computer. We use our computers to
verify and reporting of material on the work orders
(Mapps/Vignette/Versaview/PowerPlant), installing facilities in the mapping
software (WM/GIS), as an inter-departmental communication tool (Lotus
Notes/Sametime). We also use an Access database to log an inventory of
all the work orders that have been received into the records department as
well as maintaining a history of the qa process. Also, as part of the
QA process on large work orders, I will often use an Excel spreadsheet to
help maintain an accurate inventory of Install/Retired material for the job. I have been using the Maximo system during the qa
process since the record department go live date of November 7th, 2011,
but I do not have any experience with Ventyx or Primavera. I have only
heard of these systems during the power user conference calls about problems
that were occurring in the systems. |
